About this itinerary

This is the Andamans away from Havelock and Neil. The route runs north into Middle Andaman for Rangat and Long Island, two places most itineraries skip, and trades polished resorts for quiet beaches and boat trips to near-empty islands.

Day 1 covers Port Blair and the Cellular Jail. Day 2 is the road north to Rangat for the Dhaninallah mangrove walkway and Morrice Dera Beach. Day 3 takes a government ferry to Long Island, Day 4 is a boat trip to Lalaji Bay, Mark Bay and Guitar Island, and Day 5 returns to Port Blair with a stop at the Baratang limestone caves. It suits travellers who want distance from the crowds and do not mind long transfers and basic stays.

Before you travel

  • Day 1 stays in Port Blair, so a morning or early afternoon landing works. Days 2 to 5 have early starts for the forest convoys and government ferries, whose timings are fixed by the administration and confirmed with you in advance.
  • This route uses government ferries between Rangat and Long Island, and those tickets are included and held on booking confirmation. Government ferry sailings and the Long Island boat trips are decided by the administration and by weather, so the plan can shift at short notice.
  • The road journeys on Days 2 and 5 cross the Jarawa Tribal Reserve in a timed convoy. Photography of the reserve and its residents is prohibited, and you must reach the checkpoint in time for the convoy slot.
  • The Cellular Jail and its museum are closed on Mondays and national holidays, with a lunch break from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. The Light and Sound show runs in English on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at about 6:50 PM and in Hindi on other nights from about 5:50 PM. Non-professional camera charges are about Rs 200 per camera.
  • Breakfast is included daily, with lunch on Day 1. Any meal not listed is payable directly. Rangat and Long Island have limited dining, so most meals are at your hotel.
  • Turtle nesting at Dhaninallah is seasonal, roughly December to March, and sightings are never guaranteed. The Long Island boat trip to Lalaji Bay, Mark Bay and Guitar Island depends on weather and government clearance.
  • Rangat and Long Island are remote, with limited hotels, patchy mobile networks and few ATMs. Carry enough cash for the trip, as card and online payments are often unavailable.
