You do not require any special document to visit Andaman Island or Havelock however you cannot enter Lakshwdeep Islands. Also, your passport should be valid for more than 6 months before your date of arrival and your visa should not consist of any stamp that says “not valid for restricted areas” or “entry to Restricted Areas not permitted”.

Port Blair is the capital of Andaman and it is known for its rich tribal culture, shorelines, and shopping experience. You can visit some tourist attraction spots like Cellular Jail, Chidiya Tapu, Gandhi Park, Mount Harriet, and Barren Volcano. International calling facilities and booths are available only in Port Blair. You have to dial 001 + the country code + the area code + the phone number you want to call. Mobile and internet connection is also excellent in Port Blair and Havelock. Other islands have no or poor connections that make it difficult to receive calls. Also, the connection is poor during the monsoon due to heavy rainfall. Networks that are available here are Airtel and BSNL.

Andaman does not have huge shopping complexes or malls but you can buy beautiful home decor items, handmade artifacts, coconut jewelry, clothes, bags, and shoes from local stalls.

You can take a certain measure to stay safe while visiting Andaman. Beware of pickpockets and don’t leave your baggage, money, and valuables unattended. Many resorts include Havelock provides lockers which you can use to keep your money and jewelry safe.

You can rent bicycles and bikes from the market area in Port Bair and Havelock on per day basis. Petrol for bikes is additional. You have to wear a helmet and carry your driving license at all time as you can be stopped by local police. However, cars cannot be rented anywhere on the island. You have to rent a taxi if you want to visit tourist spots.

Andaman harbors over 2000 of plant species in which 1300 species are not found on mainland India. The island has nine national parks and an exclusive marine wildlife. Landfall Island is the most popular wildlife sanctuary which hosts some of the richest butterfly diversity in the world. Andaman also has 240 species of birds including scop’s owl, the blue-eared kingfisher, and the fulvous breasted woodpecker.

Andaman is the home to four tribes- the Great Andamanese, Onge, Jarawa and Sentinelese. They are believed to arrive on the island 6000 years ago. Tourists are prohibited to enter tribal reserves. Neither you are allowed to photograph them. However, you can visit the Anthropological Museum in Port Blair if you want to see their tools, weapons and photographs depicting their lives and culture.

Andaman is a quiet island. You will not find disco and loud music on a regular basis. However, during the New Year and Christmas, you can go to late night parties organized at Havelock. Few resorts also provide bar facility where you can find wine and imported beverages.

Alcohol is imported in Andaman only through ANIIDO which also supply arm of the administration. Therefore, only Indian wines and IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor are sold here. G.B Pant hospital in Port Blair is the best hospital in Andaman. However, the service is relatively poor as compared to the hospitals in mainland India. In the case of emergncy, one should fly to India to get better treatment.

Animals like lions or tigers, wild boar, spotted deer, civet cat and Monitor lizardsare found in the tropical forests of Andaman Island. Many species of birds, butterflies, aquatic animals, and reptiles like snakes and crocodiles are also found here.
