Chennai sits about 1,370 km from Port Blair, one of the two shortest hops to the islands from mainland India. Andaman tour packages from Chennai start at ₹11,499 per person for the land portion, covering 2 to 13 nights across Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram), Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) and Neil (Shaheed Dweep). The nonstop takes 2 hours 15 minutes, and the first IndiGo service lands at 06:55, early enough to put you on a morning ferry to Havelock the same day. Hotels, private cabs, ferry tickets and sightseeing are included.

Our team is on the islands, not on the mainland, and you get the full day-by-day plan with the exact price before you pay anything. One practical thing: Tamil is widely spoken in Port Blair and Tamil food is easy to find, from Annapurna Cafeteria in Aberdeen Bazaar to Icy Spicy at Junglighat. Travelling with parents or particular eaters is simpler here than on most island holidays.

How many days are enough for an Andaman trip from Chennai?

Four nights and five days is enough for a first trip from Chennai. That is one night fewer than we would tell a Delhi or Mumbai traveller, and the reason is the timetable rather than the itinerary.

The 06:55 IndiGo arrival makes day one a real day. You are out of the airport by about 07:30 and can be on the 08:45 Makruzz to Havelock, which puts you on Radhanagar Beach that afternoon. Coming home, the 13:35 departure gives you a genuine last morning. Add those two half-days back and 4N/5D from Chennai buys what 5N/6D buys from the north.

  • 2N/3D: one island, done properly. Off the 06:55 landing you are checked in at Havelock by about 10:30, which is why a single-island long weekend works from Chennai and rarely does from anywhere else. No Neil, and no slack if a ferry is cancelled.
  • 3N/4D: Port Blair and Havelock. Two islands are right at this length; a third would be one too many.
  • 4N/5D: Port Blair, Havelock and Neil, with four usable days. The pick for a first trip from Chennai.
  • 5N/6D: the same three islands with a spare day. Take it if you want a scuba morning or one slow start.
  • 6N/7D and up: Rangat, Baratang and Diglipur come into range. Long road days, far fewer tourists.

Which Andaman package should you choose?

Choose by how many days you can take off, then check that against the flight times below.

Our pick for a first Chennai trip is the 4N/5D Havelock & Neil Island Escape at ₹19,999 per person. It puts Havelock first rather than Port Blair, which suits the 06:55 landing: you are on Swaraj Dweep the morning you fly, and Port Blair and Neil come later, when a delayed ferry costs you nothing.

Time for the off-beatAquamarine Isles Tour8N/9DPort Blair + Havelock + Neil + Rangat₹34,999

Now the trade-off, plainly. Four nights does not stretch to Baratang, Rangat or Diglipur, and two of your five mornings go to ferries. If you are travelling with young children or senior citizens, take the 6N/7D Azure Andaman at ₹29,999 instead. The extra nights remove one pre-dawn ferry start, which is the part that wears everyone out.

Everything is customisable. Swap a hotel, add a night, drop an island, add scuba at Havelock. Nothing on this page is fixed.

Flying from Chennai to Port Blair: who flies nonstop, and when you land

Two airlines fly the route nonstop right now

IndiGo operates two nonstops a day from Chennai (MAA) to Port Blair (IXZ). Akasa Air operates one on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Block time is 2 hours 15 minutes.

Air India has not flown the route nonstop since December 2024 and now sells it only via Delhi or Kolkata. This connection sits beside the nonstops in search results at similar fares, so read the routing before you book. A stop turns a 2h 15m hop into a seven to ten hour day and lands you too late for a Havelock ferry.

The 06:55 landing is the whole advantage

Flight Departs Chennai Lands Port Blair Days
IndiGo 6E52604:4006:55Daily
Akasa Air QP114507:4009:55Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun
IndiGo 6E84510:4513:00Daily

Schedule as of September 2026. Times move seasonally, so confirm on the carrier site.

Private ferries to Havelock leave Haddo Jetty from 06:00, with useful sailings through to 14:00. Haddo is 15 to 20 minutes from the airport and operators want you at the jetty an hour before departure.

On the 06:55 arrival, take the 08:45, 11:30 or 12:30 sailing. The 06:00 and 08:00 departures are too tight to book. On the 09:55 Akasa arrival, aim at 12:30 or 13:15. After the 13:00 arrival, spend the night in Port Blair; only the 14:00 sailing is left, and one hour with checked bags is not a plan.

The last flight back to Chennai leaves at 13:35

Return departures from Port Blair are IndiGo 6E581 at 07:25, Akasa QP1146 at 10:35 on its four days, and IndiGo 6E2698 at 13:35. Nothing leaves after that.

The 13:35 is the one to book. It turns your last day from a write-off into a morning: breakfast, a walk at Corbyn's Cove, a late checkout, and you are still at the airport in good time. Book the 07:25 and you are leaving your hotel around 05:15, which effectively ends the trip the night before.

Fares and when to book

Return fares between Chennai and Port Blair typically start around ₹20,013 per person for standard economy (as of September 2026). Off-peak seats booked well ahead can come in lower. Three windows run sharply higher: 24 December to 4 January, which is the Tamil Nadu half-yearly school break, Pongal week from 14 to 17 January 2027, and the school summer holiday from late April.

Book the flight before the package. Airfare on this route moves daily and the land rates on this page do not. Send your flight timings with the enquiry and we build the itinerary around your actual landing and departure, not a generic day one.

Chennai to Port Blair by ship

The passenger ship from Chennai is running. MV Swaraj Dweep worked the route through 2026, carrying 419 passengers on the 26 August crossing and 601 on 31 July, and the Directorate of Shipping Services published revised passenger fares for 2026-27 in February 2026.

The crossing takes roughly 56 to 70 hours, so two and a half to three days each way. Sailings run three to four times a month and the schedule is issued month by month rather than fixed far ahead. Non-islander fares run from about ₹4,115 in bunk class to about ₹17,485 for a deluxe cabin.

Book through the DSS STARS e-ticketing portal, open 00:30 to 23:30 daily, or in person at the Assistant Director (Shipping Services), Jawahar Building, 2nd Floor, 17 Rajaji Salai, opposite Customs House, Chennai 600001, on 044 2522 0841. Carry the same photo ID you booked with; a mismatch at boarding is penalised at ten times the base fare. Report two hours before sailing.

It suits people who want the crossing itself, heavy luggage, and long stays. Do the arithmetic first. Five to six days at sea on a return is longer than the entire land portion of a 4N/5D package, and the bunk class has no cabin. For a week's holiday, fly. Full detail is in our guide to Andaman ship schedules, cost and online booking.

Best time to visit Andaman from Chennai

October to mid-May is the reliable window: calm seas, ferries running to full schedule, and clear water for diving. From Chennai the timing has a neat symmetry, because your own wettest months are the islands' drying-out months.

  • October to December. Chennai's north-east monsoon sets in around 20 October and delivers close to half the city's annual rainfall. Over the same weeks the Andamans come out of the south-west monsoon and ferry operators return to a full timetable. Late October is still unsettled at sea. November is where it turns properly good.
  • November to February. The best of the year. Days of 25 to 30 degrees, dependable sailings, and December gives the clearest underwater visibility of any month.
  • Mid-January. Pongal falls on 14 to 17 January 2027, with Thai Pongal on Friday. Flights and island hotels are full and dear across that week. If your dates are flexible, go the week after.
  • Late April to May. The Tamil Nadu school break starts around 24 April 2027. The first three weeks are hot, humid and stable at sea. The last week is not. The south-west monsoon reaches the Andaman Sea around 22 May, ten to twelve days before it reaches Kerala. Travel in early May, not late May.
  • June to September. Monsoon. Cheapest and quietest, but ferry schedules thin out and afternoon sailings are often dropped. Travel then only with a buffer night in Port Blair and travel insurance.

Permits. Indian citizens need no permit for Port Blair, Havelock or Neil. A permit is required for tribal-reserve routes such as Baratang and for parts of North Andaman including Diglipur, and we arrange those inside the package. Foreign nationals register on arrival at the airport.

Andaman package from Chennai: with or without flights?

Both work. Everything priced on this page is land only, so what you see is the on-ground cost. If you would rather we book the Chennai return alongside the package, we can. Call or WhatsApp for the current fare, since it changes daily.

Most Chennai travellers book their own seats and come out ahead. Three things decide whether that goes well. Take a nonstop rather than a routing through Bengaluru, Delhi or Kolkata. Aim for the 06:55 or 09:55 arrival so day one is not lost. Take the 13:35 flight home so the last morning is yours. Send those timings with your enquiry and the itinerary is built around them.

Why book with AndamanTourism.org

We are based in Port Blair. Our office is at Hotel Classic Regency, AIR Road, Delanipur, Sri Vijaya Puram, and that is where your trip is planned.

Worth checking when you compare quotes from Chennai, because most of what you will see advertised is sold by mainland agencies that subcontract the on-ground work to somebody else. The difference shows at 6 am when a sailing is cancelled. Our hotel, cab and ferry relationships are direct, so the people rebooking you are already on the island.

Andaman tour packages from Chennai: FAQs

How much does an Andaman tour package from Chennai cost?

The land package runs ₹11,499 to ₹34,999 per person (as of September 2026), by duration and hotel category. Add from about ₹20,013 per person for a nonstop return flight. A 4N/5D trip for a couple works out to roughly ₹85,000 to ₹95,000 all in.

Is there a direct flight from Chennai to Port Blair?

Yes. IndiGo flies two nonstops a day and Akasa Air flies four days a week, both in 2 hours 15 minutes. Air India and Air India Express currently sell the route only with a stop, so check the routing on the booking page rather than just the price.

What time do Chennai flights land in Port Blair, and can I reach Havelock the same day?

IndiGo 6E526 lands at 06:55 and Akasa QP1145 at 09:55. Both leave enough time for a same-day private ferry to Havelock, and the 08:45 and 12:30 sailings are the safe picks. The 13:00 arrival does not, so plan a night in Port Blair.

Which package duration is best for a first trip from Chennai?

4N/5D. The early landing and the 13:35 flight home give you four usable days, which from a north Indian city would take five nights. Take 6N/7D instead if you are travelling with young children or senior citizens.

Is the ship from Chennai to Port Blair still running?

Yes. MV Swaraj Dweep sails three to four times a month, takes about 56 to 70 hours each way, and is booked through the DSS STARS portal or the shipping office on Rajaji Salai. It is a passage rather than a cruise, and a return crossing costs you five to six days of your holiday.

When is the best time to travel to Andaman from Chennai?

November to February. Chennai is in its own north-east monsoon from around 20 October while the islands are drying out, so November is the first genuinely reliable month. Avoid Pongal week, 14 to 17 January 2027, unless you book two to three months ahead.

Do I need a permit to visit Andaman from Chennai?

Indian citizens need no permit for Port Blair, Havelock or Neil. Baratang and parts of North Andaman need one, which we arrange within the package. Foreign nationals register on arrival at the airport.

Ready to plan your Andaman trip from Chennai?

Our Port Blair team replies within 2 to 3 hours with a complete day-by-day itinerary and the exact price, before you pay anything. Send your dates and your flight timings and we will build the trip around them.
