The city has a lot more to it as it is surrounded by stunning beaches and verdant greenery. The island’s marine life and vibrant coral reefs along with the rich culture and heritage with its diverse communities and local traditions is a melting pot of tourism. The exciting water sports like snorkelling, scuba diving, along with leisurely beach strolls and sunset views are all enthralling. October to March is considered the best time to visit Port Blair. The city is popular for the historic Cellular Jail National, which once had the fate of the prisoners sealed and saw hundreds of brave freedom fighters languishing and wasting away.
Be a witness to the atrocities unleashed hundreds of years ago in the British occupied India and watch in horror the sacrifices that our forefathers, the nation’s guards, made to free the country from British clutches. Attend the brilliant and powerful rendition of the pre-independence drama through the famous Sound and Light Show at Cellular Jail.
The other attractions such as the Anthropological Museum or the Mahatma Gandhi Marine Park are equally fascinating for every tourist and traveller.
Begin the day with a breezy ferry trip from Port Blair to Havelock Island. The journey in itself is a mesmerizing experience. You are usually set for a 1.5 to 2.5 hour ride from Port Blair to Havelock Island, also called Swaraj Dweep. Ferries depart from Haddo Jetty at the Port Blair ferry terminal and you finally arrive at Havelock Jetty. Private ferries are more luxurious options and take you to your destination much faster. The serenity and beauty of this beach is widely known and the day will prove to be a genuine relaxation apt for an ideal beach vacation.
